Press Release – Paris, December 16 2024

Lerins advised Quiet Oceans in connection with its acquisition by the Toulouse-based group CLS, a subsidiary of CNES (Centre National d’Études Spatiales) and a key player in satellite services specializing in localization and environmental data collection.

This acquisition enables CLS to enhance its scientific capabilities in assessing and mitigating the impacts of underwater noise while expanding its solutions dedicated to the protection of biodiversity and marine ecosystems. A historic provider of the Argos satellite system, CLS has been tracking marine wildlife via satellite for nearly 40 years and actively combats illegal fishing and marine pollution.

Based in Brest and specializing in studying the impact of underwater noise, Quiet Oceans was founded in 2010. The company develops innovative solutions for forecasting, monitoring, and reducing ocean noise through its proprietary Quonops technology. Its activities include conducting environmental impact assessments for maritime projects (renewable marine energy, offshore constructions, maritime traffic, etc.) and research aligned with the requirements of the Marine Strategy Framework Directive (MSFD).

The Lerins team advising Quiet Oceans on this transaction was led by partner Guillaume Jarry, assisted by associate Laetitia Cachin, on corporate matters, as well as partner Mathilde Croze, and associate Agnès Morel, on IP-related aspects.
