After several years of debate and controversy, particularly regarding the hosting of health data by Microsoft, the French government may entrust this mission to a French or European provider. The aim is to reduce reliance on non-European cloud services and strengthen control over the location, access, and security of sensitive health data.

As highlighted in Les Echos, Mathilde Croze, partner, notes that “the controversy is not new, but the geopolitical context has reshuffled the cards, forcing France and Europe to confront their dependencies.”

This issue raises several challenges :
👉Ensuring legal compliance and data sovereignty;
👉Guaranteeing security, encryption, and infrastructure resilience;
👉Enabling European cloud providers to handle large-scale health data with strong guarantees of availability and recognized certifications.

Against this backdrop, French and European providers such as OVHcloud, OUTSCALE, Cloud Temple, Scaleway and S3NS are positioning themselves in this strategic and symbolic market.
